He ran after me while I quickly climbed up the stairs, furious. How dared he even pronounce a word when I'd clearly told him to hush it? Not only was he imune of brains in general, was he also deaf? And blind, for not seeing how mad he was making me? Enough, it was enough. I couldn't bear him anymore, he couldn't go around making my friends and the ones I love look like weaks and fools.
"Listen I'm sorry, you know how he can get on my nerves", James explained as he followed me into the Gryffindor Common Room.
"Leave me alone, Potter! You bully !"
"Why are you so angry? You're always angry at me , Evans! Come on now , don't be so emotional!", he chuckled, not understanding why I was acting the way I was, "He looked for it."
Was he really wondering why I was so upset ? It seemed to me like it was obvious; he couldn't go around bringing people down only in order to feel superior , nor could he go around insulting and making others feel bad.
His attitude was ungrateful and hurtful , especially when it was meant for someone who'd never done a bloody thing wrong to him. "Oh, save it will you?", I snapped dryly at him, not wanting to hear one more word slip out of his mouth, "I've made it clear that I don't want to speak with you ever again, Potter. So now, let me some space."
"I won't let you some space, I'm sure 'letting you some space' actually means getting even closer to you", he smiled playfully.
"No, it means if you get close, you'll get hurt. I'm serious."
"Listen to me!"
"I'm not interested."
"Yes, you are. You just won't admit it , because you're so stubborn and you don't want your friend to feel bad. But forget greasy head for one moment, and just think about it , you do like me."
"First of all, /stop/ calling him like that, and second, I don't like bullies who hurt and insult for no valuable reason", I was getting enough of him, he'd been unbearable these days. Following me around the school, chasing after me even more than the usual, calling me by annoying little nicknames such as 'Beautiful Lily' or 'My princess Lily'. And he'd insulted Sev. Nobody could insult Sev and get away with it so easily.
"Why are you always defending him? He's looking for trouble, I'm not!"
I let out a sarcastic light laugh, "Sev is looking for trouble?! Really? And how is he doing that? You're always bothering him when he's not doing anything wrong to you. Like that time in the library when you took his book away from him and never gave it back. He had to pay for it , you know? And that time where you soaked his Slytherin robes in the lake right before class. Don't come up to me and play the victim here Potter, I'm not a fool and I'm not ever going to buy it."
"But why are you always defending him? Do you like him?"
How dared he ask such a personal question? My green eyes glared at him as I tucked a long strand of auburn colored hair behind my ear, "He's like a brother to me."
"So, you don't like him ?"
"I already answered that."
"If you don't like him, why don't you like me?"
"You're an annoying brat who thinks every girl likes him and would kill to be with him , but you're wrong. I'm not interested at all, never have been, never will be, because the only one you can think of is yourself and I would never stand to be with a man who doesn't have his priorities straight."
"But I do have priorities", James insisted , crossing his arms .
He was standing tall in front of me , I suddenly felt so short and petite figured, but still wanted to prove that I could stand up for myself.
I rose my chin up , ever so slightly, and did not break the gaze, staring into his eyes, "Oh really ? That's what you think Potter? You think life is all about you, and what you want and getting everything you desire when you want to? That's not how things work. All I've learnt about you is how you bully those who are weaker, and how much of a bad self-esteem you have, because believe me or not, people who make fun of others and humiliate them publicly just for the 'fun' of it don't truly feel good about themselves."
"Smarty pants, Lily Evans", James mocked , and grinned sheepishly.
"That's what I thought, unable to keep up an intelligent conversation. Good night, I'm off to bed..." I took my wans and my books, ready to leave when I suddenly felt a grip around my wrist.
"Come on , Evans, give me a chance."
I turned around, "I will not give you chance you pathetic brat, you're just an arrogant - ", I interrupted myself when I saw the look in the boy's eyes, sincerity ? Was I really seeing sincerity in /James Potter/'s eyes? I gulped, shaking that thought off my mind, "Goodnight, Potter." And went off to bed.
